COMMUNITY FUNDING called "Ummah Responders". What is it? A resource for Muslim community members in need of funding that exceeds what ICNA-Relief and MCSS can provide. A collaboration between ICNA-Relief & Ummah Health and now MAS-Boston! To apply please email Kadra Maruf at [email protected]
What are the benefits to donors? ICNA-Relief provides professional applications & verification of all needs, assess for zakat eligibility, provides an anonymous / private forum for those in need and those giving, provide an online link for easy donation, donations can be tax deductible. Donors do not give any funds up front; they actually hear and respond to the story / need of their choosing and give funds only at that time. This benefits the responder by being more in touch with the needs of the community, though you are part of a team and need not reply to all.
How can I open the doors of this service to my community? Any need will be considered. At the same time, to make this sustainable, we ask that 5 members from a community step forward to serve as an "Ummah Responder" for at least one year. You do not have to pay anything at this time. You will receive an introductory email, once you agree to the terms you will be added. Brief anonymous stories of need will be shared with the group as they arise. You choose which you wish to donate to. can be in part or in full (no specific amount), but you must commit to respond at least 2X per year.
How does it work? Once your community has 5+ people committed to respond, you may advertise the service. People in need contact Sr Kadra directly, this can be for funding or goods. She will share the application with them and complete verification of need. Once that is completed, if the need can not be met by ICNA-Relief or MCSS , she will share with the "ummah responders" anonymous email list. Donors choose to respond to what they want, when they want to. They can give the full need or part. "Responders" reply back to Sr Kadra to give. She will arrange connecting the funds with the person. Loans and Go Fund Me assistance is possible for community members, though direct funds are generally preferred.
"And your Lord says, "Call upon Me; I will respond to you".. 40:60
